We put Mu-Xi to sleep

She wasn’t getting enough food, wasn’t getting enough water, having difficulty swallowing what she would chew, was jerking around in pain when trying to lay down to fall asleep so instead she laid in a puffy little ball, allowed me to pet her in the pig pen and pick her up without a fight… She […]

Play hard, Lila

When I saw this little black smashed face dog for adoption on Petfinder, I thought it was great because of her coloring, and that I should go out to meet her. She was at Forget-Me-Not Pekingese Rescue out in California. I was living in Phoenix, ran it by my boyfriend, and then took my ex […]

We lost one

Tommy somehow got to a baby this morning. He ate it’s face off. I didn’t talk to him all day. The pig pen is like triple reinforced now and everything has walls to it’s ceiling and then the grate on the top is ziptied shut when I’m not interacting with them.

Chai is gone

For those of you not keeping up on my Twitter, Chai died last night. She had finally reached 800 grams again for the first time since December 3rd. Then she wasn’t eating yesterday and last night she went into convulsions. We wrapped her up in a little blanket and Dismal and I stroked her until […]

We lost Honey

She brought a lot of joy to my  home in the last few months she was here. I found her this morning. To my knowledge she was about 4 1/2. Adoption can be a wonderful thing.

I’m greatly saddened by the passing of my veterinarian. I’d known him since 2007 and he’d helped my family take care of rats, guinea pigs and birds. He was the most awesome, nerdy vet I’d ever hoped for. He enjoyed Star Trek, Comicon, art walks, and was always caught holding hands with his wife, Marlene. […]

Comings and Goings

Three weeks ago, Honey joined the herd, bringing the number up to 4. Her weight bounces back and forth by several grams, and today she weighs in at 887 so I’m supplementing hand feedings again. Her mammary tumor seems to be stable at the same size, and she gets along well with the other guinea […]

and then there were three

Callie died. Callie was still losing a little bit of weight. She was bright and alert. She was happy to leave her isolation cage this morning and go out in the big pig pen with the rest of the girls and get salad with the herd and hang out like happy guinea pigs do, laying […]

Little Bastard: Conclusion

Lbs’ (pronounced ELBS’ES) abscess has finally cleared up. He was doing well for the last week without anything coming back after a full round of antibiotics and twice daily flushes with the betadine solution. The last few days he seems a bit more tired than usual. He was getting out of breath after playing, but […]

Serena

Two days ago I was wandering Craigslist and noticed an ad that sunk my heart. I could tell from the way it was written and the content that it was about the elderly persian I helped shave and mentioned recently. They were looking for affordable services to have her euthanized. I still had the author’s […]
